The 'Four Zones' Home Cleaning System (Part 3)

October 28th, 2009

Home cleaning continues with Zone 3: Formal living and dining rooms. Take a deep breath, a drink of water and pat yourself on the back. Our home cleaners are almost done with your house – by following a clear cleaning system, we have saved the easiest for the last.

Our home cleaning experts take their responsibilities very seriously by following strict set of rules and instructions for the most efficient and safe home cleaning.

Formal living room

Step 1:
* Move any light furniture, including lamps, into the centre of the room.

Step 2:
* Use a cleaning technique called ‘the drill’ (dust the room, moving from left to right, one wall at a time. Dust from top to bottom, including pelmets, window frames, pictures and furniture)

Step 3:
* Vacuum outside the living room.
* Return the furniture to its original position.

Step 4:
* Lift the seat cushions out of the sofa and armchairs and vacuum underneath with the brush attachment.
* Vacuum the centre of the floor.

Dining Room

Step 1:
* Go to the dining room and repeat steps 1 to 3.

Step 2:
* Dust the dining room table and chairs.

Step 3:
* Pull the chairs away from the table and vacuum under the table.
* Return the chairs to their original positions and vacuum the rest of the room.

Zone 4: Laundry room other spaces

Our home cleaners continue with next stop Zone 4: Laundry room and other spaces.
This is the home stretch. It’s time to polish off the last couple of rooms and wrap up any loose ends.

Laundry Room

Step 1:
* Remove the sheets and towels from the dryer or washing line and add them to the unfolded pile on the counter.
* Move the last of the laundry from the washer to the dryer or the washing line.

Step 2:
* Empty the rubbish bin into a plastic bag.

Step 3:
* Laundry room is a non high-traffic area, a quick dusting will do the cleaning job.
* Move around the room left to right, top to bottom, dusting the shelves, worktops and sink.
* Wipe up any detergent spills with a damp rag.

Step 4:
* Mop the floor

Other spaces in the house

Step 1:
* Continue the pattern of dusting, vacuuming and then mopping in the other miscellaneous spaces in the house such as conservatory, enclosed porch and office.

Step 2:
* Empty the vacuum cleaner cylinder (always check the bag level, if full change/empty it) then put the cleaning caddy away.

Step 3:
* Take the plastic bag full of rubbish out to the dustbin.
* While outside take doormats and shake them out throughly, into an unobstructive spot.
* Take all dirty cleaning cloths to the laundry room and put them in the washing machine.
* Once washing is done (clean and dry), spread out one of the sheets from a bedroom and put all of the other laundry on top of it, along with the all the mats that were drip-drying.
* Pull the corners of the sheet together to make a sack.
* Take everything back to its original place (sheets, mats, towels, washcloths etc).
